Mountain Leader Training and Assessment courses.

Are you an experienced hillwalker wihing to take people into the hills or are you persuing a career in the outdoors. At Capricorn we can arrange a mountain leader training course to fit your diary and your pocket.

Managing a group of novice hillwalkers in the mountains of the United Kingdom in Summer conditions requires certain skill which combined with experience can only be learned through proper training on a recognized mountain leader training course followed after a period of consolidation by a mountain leader assessment course.

Prior to attending a mountain leader training course it is first necessary to register with the mountain leader training boards of England, wales or Scotland; MLTE, MLTW,  MLTS. You should ensure you meet the pre-training course requirements before attending a mountain leader training course.

Courses can be arranged here in the Lakes; mountain leader training courses are typically six days in length and cover all aspects of the mountain leader training syllabus. On a training course you will learn how to navigate more effectively in poor visibility and night navigate, mountain weather and understanding it, group management issues and styles of leadership and how to manage a group on steep ground, mountain hazards of water and steep ground including emergency use of the rope. You will spend a night out camping on a traveling expedition learning group campcraft and expeditioning skills. Access and Conservation will also be covered in detail and we will look at some of the natural history of the lakes and how the mountain environment was formed. Assessment courses are typically five days duration and assess all of the above covered during the mountain leader training course.Part of the assessment is spent on a two night traveling expedition.We can arrange an assessment  course to suit your availability.
